Energy drinks have become quite popular in recent years, and it isn’t just in Atlanta. In fact, the makers of one popular brand of energy drink, Red Bull, say that they have sold 35 billion cans in 165 countries. This trend is really no surprise considering the fast pace lives that most people live. Many people use energy drinks as a way to keep going during the day and allow them to be alert.
Even with the widespread use of energy drinks, there are those who question their safety. Many energy drinks contain ingredients which some consider questionable, although manufacturers argue that they are safe for human consumption.
However, a new products liability lawsuit is putting the spotlight on a popular brand of energy drink, Red Bull. The family of a 33-year-old man claims that he died shortly after drinking a Red Bull. Although he reportedly led an active and healthy lifestyle, his grandmother said he would drink Red Bull regularly.
The man died from idiopathic dilated cardiomyopathy, a type of heart failure where the heart is enlarged and no longer works effectively. The family blames the manufacturers of Red Bull for their loved one’s death and are seeking $85 million in damages.
This family has suffered an immeasurable loss. Hopefully their lawsuit will enable them to be properly compensated for the man’s pain and suffering, medical costs and funeral costs. Although nothing can make up for their loved one’s death, holding the company accountable may enable them to receive a sense of closure and be able to move on with their lives.
