Dangerous Children’s Toys And Statistics

Given that so many fun and engaging products are specifically designed and marketed with kids in mind, you and other parents across the country are often led to believe that they are safe for children. Unfortunately, however, the attorneys at Garland, Samuel & Loeb, P.C., are all too familiar with the fact that not all kids’ toys are created equal or safe. Thousands of injury accidents and serious product liability incidents occur every year, having profound and devastating consequences on children and their families.

Newsweek recently reported on injuries related to dangerous children’s toys, and offered a number of sobering statistics on the subject. A study conducted by the Center for Injury Research and Policy at Nationwide Children’s Hospital found that toy-related injuries increased almost 40 percent over a 22-year period, and that different age groups of children were vulnerable to sustaining particular types of injuries. If your child is between the ages of five and 17, for instance, he or she is much more likely to be hurt using a foot-powered scooter or other type of riding toy than younger kids. Children under the age of five are especially prone to choking injuries related to small toys. And while all kids are susceptible to falls and collision-related injuries, product defects and other issues cause a huge number of preventable toy hazards every year.

In one year alone it was estimated that over 100 different kinds of toys were recalled by manufacturers. And while such product recalls are intended to protect the safety of children like those in your family, information regarding toy recalls is often not widely accessible or publicized to consumers.

Being aware of toy-related safety hazards can go a long way to help protect you and your family from avoidable injuries. Learn more about your child’s rights as a potential injury claimant by visiting our web page today.
