1 Dead After Bus And Delivery Truck Collide In Atlanta

Those who ride the public bus system in Atlanta probably do not give too much thought to their safety. Buses are generally considered to be safe, even with the lack of seat belts. However, recent accidents have raised concern over just how safe buses are and if a seat belt requirement needs to be reevaluated.

A fatal accident involving a Gwinnett transport bus and a delivery truck is just the latest bus accident that has occurred in downtown Atlanta. The collision occurred around 3:40 p.m. when the bus reportedly went through a red light at the intersection of Central Avenue and Ralph David Abernathy Boulevard. The bus crashed into a FedEx delivery truck. The impact of the collision sent both vehicles into a building nearby, resulting in damage to the building.

Both drivers of the delivery truck and the bus were taken to the same hospital. The delivery truck driver succumbed to his injuries and died; the bus driver was listed in critical condition.

Authorities have conducted a preliminary investigation, but still continue to look into the details of the crash. Charges are expected to be forthcoming.

The family of the delivery truck driver killed in this accident would be well advised to consult with an attorney about their case. They may be entitled to compensation for the death of their loved one, his pain and suffering, medical expenses and funeral costs. They may also be able to collect compensation for lost wages and lost companionship as a result of the death of their loved one.
