What Are The Most Common Driver Distractions?

Georgian drivers such as yourself face many distractions during your drive, and they can come from your environment or from yourself and the people around you. But what are the most common forms of distraction?

Out of the many different activities that can distract a driver, The Nation’s Health states that the same handful of distractions are seen repeatedly. For example, you could be distracted by passengers. This can include conversing with them, tending to children who are in the car, or dealing with other people fighting or getting rowdy while inside the vehicle. Texting or calling people who aren’t with you can also be a huge distractor. In fact, texting while driving is currently considered one of the biggest distraction dangers on the road.

However, there are also common causes of distraction that can occur when you are driving alone. These can include adjusting the radio or temperature, drinking or eating, and grooming. Plenty of people do their makeup or touch up their appearance in the car while on the way out, but this is dangerous and can contribute to accidents caused by distraction. You can also potentially get into accidents if you are concentrating on a map or GPS, which is sometimes easy to forget about since most people consider driving distractions to be entirely unrelated to actually driving.

Keeping your focus on the road at all times is the only surefire way to make sure you don’t cause any accidents by being distracted. However, being reminded of the many different forms distractions can take may help you to further avoid accidents.
