Man Killed In Industrial Accident At Kia Auto Plant

Businesses in Georgia have a responsibility to ensure their workplaces are safe for everyone on the premises. This is particularly important for those in industries that are known to be dangerous, such as the construction or industrial fields. If a person suffers serious injuries or is killed on the job, there is the potential for a premises liability lawsuit.

A tragic recent workplace accident at the Kia Motors Manufacturing Georgia plant in West Point may have been caused by hazardous conditions. According to authorities, a 57-year-old employee was moving equipment in the steel press section of the plant in early October, when heavy materials fell on top of him. The man died on the scene; medical examiners said the cause of death was compression asphyxia due to the heavy weight crushing his lungs and making him unable to breathe.

It is unknown whether the accident was caused by a dangerous property condition or if it was a result of improper work procedures. Authorities from the auto plant and the U.S. Occupational Safety and Health Administration were investigating the circumstances surrounding the accident.

When an employee is out of work for an extended period due to a workplace injury or illness, or is killed in an accident on the job, it can result in severe financial difficulties for the entire family. If the accident was determined to be the result of a negligent employer or property owner, the victim or his or her family may have the right to the compensation of their losses.
